Beppu & Kurokawa Onsen Course: Kyushu Hot-Spring Loop

Kyushu’s onsen story is easier if you treat Beppu as the open-air spectacle and Kurokawa as the intimate riverside stay. This course assumes you can spare 2–3 nights and will move by train/bus or a short rental-car hop.

1. Arrive via Oita / Fukuoka → Beppu (1 night)
2. Transfer to Kurokawa Onsen (1–2 nights)
3. Exit toward Kumamoto / Fukuoka

Beppu — hells by day, baths by night

Beppu is for geothermal sightseeing plus a solid hotel soak. Start with the hells tour if you have never seen boiling mud pools, then return to your hotel’s baths when the day crowds thin.

Kurokawa — slow lanes and outdoor baths

Kurokawa rewards walking between public baths with a nyuto tegata (bath passport) if you are day-hopping, or settling into one ryokan for dinner and night baths if you want stillness.
